About
I started my business way back in 2007, when I was living in France and couldn’t find any kits that I wanted to stitch. I have loved all forms of needlework, drawing and making since childhood. After college I worked in Graphic Design and learned a lot about layout, colour, scale and typography which has informed my work. I think of myself very much as a designer and illustrator that works mainly in wool, rather than solely a needleworker. I adore the softness, texture and colour that wool can bring to a space and I keep the traditional methods and materials used in these crafts, injecting my own vision. I am drawn to bold design, bright colour, drama, typography, the unexpected and the whimsical. I always keep in mind how any design would create a focal point in the home.
My designs have been featured in many publications including Elle Deco, The Sunday Times and Living Etc. I won Designer of the Year at the first ever Needlecraft Awards and my collection of portraits for Appletons Wool hangs in Liberty of London.
As well as designing, I love to spread the joy of needlepoint through teaching. I have taught at the Victoria & Albert Museum, West Dean College, Charleston House and Monk’s House (former home of Virginia Woolf). I also wrote and shot a course on designing cross stitch portraits for the online course website Domestika.
“My aim is to change the way people think about stitching by not only enjoying bold designs that would look great in any setting, but also to experiences the relaxing and rewarding benefits of hand crafting.”
